Here at Coffee Shop Seeds, we only stock brands that regularly test their products for cannabinoid content, potency and purity. To validate these tests and ensure that you are purchasing CBD of the highest quality, we carry out additional third party laboratory analyses on the products we sell.
Important markers of quality include the amount of CBD in the product, other cannabinoids present, the terpene and flavonoid content, and the purity of the product (lack of contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants)
CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis. Other cannabinoids include THCA, CBDA, CBDV, CBC, CBG and CBN. Research into cannabinoids is still in its infancy, but scientists have hypothesised that there is a synergistic effect between the various cannabinoids and other plant compounds that produces a greater effect than the sum of its parts. This is known as the “entourage effect”.
Our products are tested for cannabinoid profile so that we can guarantee how much CBD is in the product, together with other cannabinoids that may be of interest. Cannabinoids are separated, identified and quantified using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). This testing also ensures that levels of THC are within the legally permitted levels.
Hemp absorbs contaminants from the soil, rainwater and air. Mould, fungi and other pathogens can also infect the plant. Some contaminants are introduced during the plant’s growth, while others are introduced during the production process – for example by the handler/operator. These contaminants can be transferred to the CBD extract and potentially consumed by the buyer.
To assure you of the safety and purity of our products, we only stock brands that test for heavy metals, chemical pesticides, residual solvents and microbial contaminants (mould, fungi, bacteria etc).
Terpenes are aromatic organic compounds found throughout the plant kingdom. Cannabis contains over 200 terpenes, which are responsible for the plant’s distinct aroma and flavour. Terpenes are known for their health-promoting properties, and are considered to contribute to cannabis’s ‘entourage effect’, synergistically interacting with the plant’s other chemical components to produce beneficial effects. Many of the brands we stock provide information about the various terpenes found in individual products.
